In BC there are a number of programs that provide breastfeeding education. BCBFN recognizes that health care providers have a significant impact on the decisions a woman makes regarding the initiation of breastfeeding; it’s exclusivity and duration. Having the current evidence-based knowledge and skills in order to provide breastfeeding education and support is essential. Step 2 of the Baby-Friendly Initiative requires that all staff have the knowledge and skills to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, appropriate to their role.
